In January, I’m going on a once in a lifetime trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, combining my love for travel, culture, and education. As part of the University of San Diego’s study abroad program I will be participating in a third semester Spanish immersion class. This trip offers a unique opportunity to dive deep into the rhythms of Argentine life while sharpening my linguistic skills. Known as the "Paris of South America," Buenos Aires is known for its stunning architecture, vibrant neighborhoods like Palermo and San Telmo, and its European-Spanish fusion lifestyle. I can’t wait to explore this vibrant city, indulge in its world-class cuisine (empanadas and dulce de leche!), and connect with my local host family to bring the culture to life.
Interestingly, Buenos Aires has been making headlines recently as it prepares for major tourism growth in 2024. With Argentina’s economic challenges leading to a more favorable exchange rate for international visitors, the city is popular for finding affordable luxury shopping. I'm looking forward to being able to experience the boutique shopping and cultural festivities Buenos Aires offers at an incredible value. Additionally, Argentina has also been in the press and this year due to its visa free travel for a list of countries. As a US citizen I will be able to make this trip possible without needing a visa allowing me to have an easier travel experience.
Beyond the classroom, this experience promises rich cultural engagement. I’m excited to visit landmarks such as the colorful Caminito street in La Boca, the historic Plaza de Mayo, and hopefully Iguaza Falls. The program also includes opportunities to see local nightlife, visit markets, and take tango lessons. Immersion is the best teacher, and I’m ready to embrace this unique learning experience, from navigating conversations at a café to learning about Argentina’s history and traditions. This trip is more than just travel—it's a chance to grow, learn, and create memories that will last a lifetime. ¡Nos vemos pronto, Argentina!
